In 2023, Leighton Hospital was proud to host a powerful and thought-provoking sculpture in the Outpatients Waiting Area, designed to raise awareness and spark conversation around adult eczema.
Colouring Adult Eczema: Getting Under the Skin is a public engagement art project commissioned by Professor Sinéad Langan at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, supported by the Wellcome Trust.
The piece was created by artists Peter Hudson and Julia Vogl, drawing on insights from nationwide workshops with 30 adults living with eczema. The resulting sculpture is made up of 30 illuminated wooden boxes, each featuring linoprint panels designed with participants’ words and artwork. Embedded QR codes link to audio recordings of the participants sharing their personal experiences, giving voice to a condition often misunderstood or unseen.
