New SWAN volunteer service launches at Leighton Hospital thanks to support from MCH Charity

On 29th May the new SWAN Volunteer service launched at Leighton Hospital. The service provides specially trained volunteers to provide comfort and companionship to patients and their loved ones at the end of life.

SWAN Volunteers sit quietly with patients, hold their hand, read to them and offer support to their loved ones.

The volunteers attended a training day to give them the knowledge and tools to support them in this role. Eventually there will be 13 SWAN volunteers supporting people across the hospital.

The SWAN Volunteer service is funded by the MCH Charity and working in partnership with the Anne Robson Trust.

Visits will be organised by the charity funded SWAN Volunteer Coordinator and will be prioritised for end of life patients who are alone.
