The launch of the Children's Emergency Care fundraising appeal had a sweet launch last week when members of staff from the ED department held a cake sale at Leighton Hospital.
During the pandemic all fundraising events at the hospital had to stop, so the event was a welcome return to a bit
of 'normality' and it wasn't long before the team had sold out of their delicious baked goods! As well as introducing the appeal to staff working at the hospital the team were able to raise a tasty amount of over £200 for the appeal.
The appeal aims to raise £40,000 which will be used to purchase a high-tech Resuscitaire to support the care of babies up to three months old who need emergency care. The money will also be used to fund two interactive floor projectors and wall fixed sensory play equipment which children visiting the paediatric unit within ED will be able to play with to help distract and calm them.
Emma Robertson, MCH Charity Manager said, 'We're so pleased to be able to support our colleagues within the Emergency Care Department to raise funds for these items. I was lucky enough to see a demonstration of the Resuscitaire and learnt about the various elements which will enhance the care of very ill babies, it's an amazing piece of kit so we're really looking forward to the day the unit receives one of their own.'
We've met with the fantastic team in ED and they already have lots of things planned throughout the year to help raise the funds including a walk up Mount Everest and a netball tournament, watch this space to find out more!'
MCH Charity has launched a new event for summer to support the appeal. Freedom Miles is simple - choose your favourite way to track miles and ask family and friends to sponsor you along the way. It launches on 21 June so it's a great opportunity to join (in person or virtually!) with family, friends or colleagues to enjoy some fresh air whilst supporting the appeal.

We're also running a fantastic raffle (draw date 5 July) and tickets are available now here
